This museum, dedicated to the painter Marc Chagall, was inaugurated in 1973 as the « Musée National message biblique Marc-Chagall » (national museum biblical message Marc-Chagall), as it houses the collection of seventeen paintings illustrating the biblical message, offered to the French gouvernment in 1966. The museum was created during his life, with the support of the minister of culture André Malraux.
